The Times: Finally… it’s time for the Quantum of Solace premiere

After a year of feverish anticipation, a teasing high-octane trailer and a run of positive early reviews, Quantum of Solace will finally receive a royal unveiling tomorrow night at the London Film Festival, writes Veronica Schmidt for The Times.

Prince William and Prince Harry will attend the world premiere of the latest Bond instalment, which is expected to draw the fortnight-long festival’s biggest crowd of star-spotters to Leicester Square

Daniel Craig, who won over sceptics with his first brooding outing as James Bond in Casino Royale, will walk the red carpet alongside the latest glamorous Bond girls, Olga Kurylenko and Gemma Arterton. Craig is already being hailed as the best Bond ever by some critics. The Times’ chief film critic James Christopher believes “he has defined himself as a darker and more bare-knuckle Bond than any of his elegant predecessors”.

Reprising her role as M, Dame Judi Dench will be in attendance as the 22nd Bond film is unveiled, as will producers Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, the daughter of the famous Bond producer Albert Broccoli.

Despite a disappointing showing on the music charts, Jack White will tread the red carpet to promote his Quantum of Solace theme song Another Way To Die. The White Stripes and Raconteurs frontman recorded the first Bond duet in the series’ long history with the American soul singer Alicia Keys, but their effort has failed to storm the charts as anticipated. The song is currently at No. 18.

White won’t have to worry about the soundtrack for the premiere – that will be taken care of by the electronic string quartet Escala, who stole Simon Cowell’s heart on Britain’s Got Talent.

Despite the mix of royalty, music and movie-star glamour, the limelight could be at least momentarily stolen by the arrival of 007’s iconic Aston Martin DBS. The car is to take prime position in Leicester Square for the premiere.

Quantum of Solace, expected to be a box office hit, opens on Friday.
